CARVER BAIN | How to Care for Strangers

I am interested in time, in exploring how the past influences us and how the future frightens us as it also excites us. This often comes out in my work and How to Care for Strangers is no different. As our first narrative short film, my creative partner Rebecca Penner and I were conscious of how to take advantage of the form. While developing the concept, we always talked about how to incorporate our themes and ideas visually. As we turned toward production, we knew that working closely with our actors and set designer would be crucial to ensuring our vision was clearly articulated. We were lucky to find talented collaborators who only elevated our own work. For us, making this film was a way to answer questions that we found ourselves bombarded by. How do you come to terms with the end of your childhood? How do you move into adulthood? Are either of those things possible? Are they necessary? Our hope is that viewers will find, if not answers to these questions, company in the asking.
